Bullitt Soundtrack: Lalo Schifrin’s Timeless Jazz Creations

My fascination with background music (BGM) in Hollywood films dates back to the late 1960s and 70s, when I was introduced to legendary composers in the industry. Icons such as Bernard Herrmann, Lalo Schifrin, John Barry, and Ennio Morricone have left a lasting impact on me. The experience of listening to their music without any visual distractions is both calming and exhilarating.

One notable track comes from the movie “Bullitt,” starring Steve McQueen. This car chase action scene is renowned as one of the top car chases in the film world. The original score was composed by Lalo Schifrin in an American Jazz style.

The first three minutes have his magical score and then followed by a mind boggling car chase, not to be missed. Keep watching.

Lalo Schifrin, expertly captured the various moods and action of the movie with his signature contemporary American jazz style. The tracks on the soundtrack album feature alternate versions of the music heard in the film, re-recorded by Schifrin himself alongside leading jazz musicians such as Bud Shank on flute, Carol Kaye on electric bass, Ray Brown on bass, Howard Roberts on guitar, and Larry Bunker on drums.

In a thrilling turn of events, in 2000, Schifrin recreated the original arrangements from the movie in a recording session with the WDR Big Band in Cologne, Germany. This incredible recreation was then released on the Aleph label, giving fans a chance to experience the music in a whole new way. The release also includes re-recordings of the arrangements from the 1968 soundtrack album for some tracks, making it a must-have for any jazz or movie music enthusiast. Get ready to be blown away by the magic of Schifrin’s music all over again!

The Radio France Philharmonic Orchestra, under the direction of Mr. Victor Jacob, has masterfully recreated the same magic of Lalo Schifrin in a breathtaking performance that transports us back to 1968. A huge shoutout to France Musique Concerts for their incredible support and collaboration in bringing this unforgettable experience to life!

I have listened to these background music tracks repeatedly and never once have I grown tired of them. They invigorate me like a strong cup of black coffee, filling me with energy and excitement every time I hear them. Happy listening.
