Discover Nithyavanam: A Retreat for Knowledge

Knowledge is power” — a truth we all recognize, yet one, that often feels like a cliché. However, the act of sharing that knowledge demands not just courage, but unwavering determination. It is in the brave exchange of ideas and insights that true power emerges. To illuminate the minds of others with what you know is to wield a force that can transform lives and shape destinies. When we embrace this challenge, for in sharing, we unlock the profound potential that lies within all of us.

The remarkable person doing this extraordinary feat with the help of a talented team, is none other than the celebrated Tamil writer and speaker Mr.Jeyamohan. Affectionately known as “J” to his friends and admirers, he stands as a beacon of creativity and inspiration.

Since 2022, the enchanting campus known as “Nithyavanam” has been captivating visitors with its ethereal charm. Nestled amidst the clouds, this quaint haven offers a unique experience that feels both literally and figuratively like being on top of the world.

Located near Bargur-Andhiyur, and thirty five km’s away from Erode, in the serene village of Vellimalai, the name itself evokes imagery of shimmering peaks. The term “Vellimalai” translates to “Silverish Mountains.” Here, nature’s beauty intertwines with tranquility, creating a breathtaking backdrop that invites exploration and reflection.

Goddess Vaak Devi

How did I come to know all of this. Was I just curious? Was I merely a visitor, drawn in by the beauty of the place? The truth is, it was a delightful blend of both! My journey began when I stumbled upon a series of captivating videos by Mr. Jeyamohan, featured on Unified Wisdom. Intrigued, I found myself irresistibly drawn to his insights, and before I knew it, I had watched every single one of his videos. They provided answers to the questions that had long eluded me, igniting a spark of curiosity within.

Eager to deepen my understanding, I decided to participate in one of the teaching camps. I discovered the perfect opportunity: a three-day introductory session on Aalaya Kalai Payirchi”, which translates to “Appreciation of Temple Art and Architecture.”

In the accompanying picture, you can see Goddess Vaak Devi, gracefully seated beneath a tree. Each day begins with a visit to her, where we seek her blessings before heading to our nearby classroom.

In the image above, the individual seated at the center, dressed in a green shirt, is Mr. Jayakumar, an esteemed educator. Although he is in his early forties, his extensive experience in fine arts, temple architecture, and dance is truly remarkable. Mr. Jayakumar possesses a profound passion for history and art, complemented by his academic qualifications in Tamil Literature, Philosophy, and Epigraphy.

To his right, clad in a vibrant striped T-shirt, is none other than the remarkable Siddha Doctor, G. Sivaraman—a figure who has left many of us pleasantly astonished!

Approximately sixty of us gathered here, ranging in age from twenty and beyond. Many had previously participated in other classes, and their eagerness to learn was palpable, radiating through their vibrant energy and enthusiastic presence!

For two and a half exhilarating days, we delved deep into the  world of temple art. We meticulously explored and dissected the intricate styles and artistic elements that define these sacred spaces. His introduction took us through the sculptures and rich iconography, revealing the profound religious, cultural, and historical significance embedded within each temple. Each moment was a revelation, as we uncovered the stories and meanings that breathe life into these architectural marvels.

As I arrived in “Nithyavanam” from Erode, the journey completely transported me to a whole new world. Erode is a bustling town, but as the taxi driver took me up into the hills and as we crossed the Forest Check Post, everything changed. The noises faded away, with only the occasional Lorries and Buses rumbling by. The air was incredibly fresh and invigorating.

Once I passed Devar Malai and hit the road leading to “Nithyavanam”, the stunning scenery wrapped around me like a warm hug, bringing a sense of calm and healing. It became clear to me , why Mr. J chose this place to teach wisdom. Just being here makes you feel healthier, and your mind feels free from worries. All I could hear was the sound of peacocks.

One of the best perks? Aside from a few spots with limited cell service, there are hardly any cellphone towers around. It’s like a much-needed detox from the digital world, and honestly, it’s a blessing for everyone.

But wait—what could be more inviting than starting your day with a steaming cup of tea? Picture Mr. Jayakumar, savoring that first sip as the morning sun casts golden rays across the landscape. ☕✨ Isn’t there something magical about those quiet moments before the world awakens?

Every morning during our invigorating early walks, we were greeted by a friendly black dog that exuded warmth and charm, showing no signs of aggression whatsoever. In this delightful moment captured in the photo, my roommate Sekar can be seen gently tapping the dog, creating a heartwarming connection that brightened our day!

In the above picture, you can see Sekar and another colleague stopping suddenly and pulling out their Mobile Phones. They seem awestruck on deciding the frame and scene to shoot. It’s green and nothing but green all around. Every frame a postcard. Every view a landscape.

A handful of participants arrived in their own vehicles, including some bikes. To be honest, I completely overlooked these cars! In the picture above, you can spot them parked in front of the Mess Hall. It’s as if they either blended seamlessly into the surroundings or perhaps were deep in contemplation—I’m not quite sure!

🌟 I must take a moment to express my gratitude to Mr. Senthil, the exceptional Taxi operator from Erode. His professionalism was evident in every interaction, making the journey not just a ride but an experience worth remembering.

It was refreshing to witness his polite interactions with his team members and our participants, as they seamlessly shuttled between Erode and Nithyavanam.

I have summed up my thoughts and I hope you enjoyed this post as much as I did.

The path is always there. It’s for us to decide and take the first step. If you’re curious and eager to learn more about this transformative journey, I invite you to explore their website “Unified Wisdom.”  Thank you.
